Children's shoe sizing is not perfectly standardized. Use this children's shoe size guide to compare European sizing with the brand-specific guidance for Grumplets, Tip Toey Joey and Lazare. A size in one brand can fit a little differently in another, so we recommend measuring your child's feet and checking the guide for the specific shoe you are considering rather than relying on age alone.

How to measure children's feet for shoes
- Measure both feet while your child is standing.
- Measure from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe.
- Use the larger measurement and compare it with the relevant brand guide.
- Check the product page for any style-specific fit notes.
Foot length is the best starting point for choosing a size. If your child falls between sizes, consider the shape and construction of the particular style rather than sizing up automatically.
A note on barefoot and wide toe box styles
Barefoot and barefoot-inspired children's shoes may look roomier through the toe box than conventional shoes. That extra space is intentional. Choose by foot length first, then use the fit notes for the individual style.
Still between sizes?
Growing room is useful; swimming room is not. If you are unsure, email customer@shopgrumplets.com and include the style you are considering and your child's foot measurement.
FAQs
How do I choose the right size?
Children’s sizing can vary by brand and style. Measure your child’s foot from heel to longest toe and compare that measurement with the size guide linked on the product page. We also include fit notes when a style runs wider, narrower, or differently from standard sizing. For the best fit, use the product-specific guidance rather than age alone.
Are all of your shoes barefoot?
Not every shoe we carry is a barefoot shoe. We select styles with children’s movement and fit in mind, and we identify features such as a wide toe box, zero-drop construction, flexible sole, lightweight build, or barefoot-inspired design only when they apply to that specific shoe.
Where are your shoes made?
Grumplets-label shoes are made in Portugal by skilled footwear makers. We also carry a small selection of independent children’s shoe brands that we personally vet. Country of origin and verified construction details are listed on each product page when available.
How do you choose the shoes you carry?
We look for children’s shoes that balance thoughtful construction with design we would actually want our own children to wear. Fit, flexibility, materials, ease of putting on, durability, and craftsmanship all matter. Because every style is different, each product page calls out the specific features we have verified rather than applying one set of claims to the entire collection.
What is your return policy?
Returns may be requested within 14 days of delivery. Shoes must be unworn, unused, and returned in their original condition and packaging. Original shipping charges are non-refundable, and return shipping may be subject to a fee. See our Returns & Refunds page for full details.
